3 ft hand braided round rug
Hand braided area rugs from recycled textiles for warm, comfy, eco-friendly decor!
This rug is hand braided from salvaged vintage fabric in a beautiful mint and cranberry color palette. It measures approximately 36 inches across. The braid tension is flexible and more on the loose side.
The rugs are all hand braided by myself, inspired by the world around me. The color story for each is one of my favorite elements, combining vibrant with subdued, traditional fabrics with more surprising patterns.
I have had a long love affair with rag rugs. The humble nature of the rag rug seems at odds with the beautiful finished product. I've purchased many myself, and in fact began learning this braiding technique because my toddler at the time found one of my favorite rag rugs and decided to take it all apart! I couldn't let that fabric go to waste! And thus my rag rug obsession went to the next level. I source my fabrics for the rugs from a variety of places: my family’s old clothing, freecycle groups online, leftovers from my local arts center, odd lots from the creative reuse store, and de-stashers on Facebook. Giving these things a second (or third!) life and keeping them out of landfills is my primary goal.
To make these funky rugs, I use a no-sew braiding-in method that is very sturdy. It will hold up to wear with ease.
This rug measures approximately 36" in a circular shape. I would recommend hand washing or beating over machine washing.
Depending on the floor surface, you may wish to use a rug pad or gripper.
