Gale Crater, Mars in Maple, Resin and Walnut

This small bit of very figured and uniquely grained maple had voids that were filled with colored resin before carving. The natural curve of the bark inclusion was lined up with the rim of Gale Crater, Mars to create this piece. It is mounted on solid walnut and finished in lacquer. One of my personal favorites.
