Natural Wood Tabletop Home Decor

This piece of cedar was a cutoff from another wood project of mine. I noticed it had a very interesting and unique grain pattern on it that made me think of picture sandstone. I anticipated that it could make an interesting scene so I squared it up, rounded over the corners, sanded it and applied a clear cedar stain to bring out the natural colors of the piece. Once that was complete, I studied it and decided that the grain patterns gave me the impression of a shoreline of a large lake as well as a horizon line. I added a tree charm growing next to the lake to amplify this impression of a landscape scene.

The cedar plaque is about 3 3/8 inches square and the top of the plaque is about 4 inches above a surface when placed on the included clear plastic stand.

This tiny piece of craft makes it easy to add a bit of art to many locations such as bookcases, night stands and tabletops.
